this blog post is for you. I am here to guide you to the five tried and tested locations which I would recommend. After reading the post, you will have a clearer idea of what each location offers and what are the best timings for a session there.
Al Qudra Desert
The soft, sand dunes of Al Qudra Desert offer a perfect, clean background for an emotive family or couple session. I love them for the wide, open space, the relative privacy they offer and the opportunity for using the setting sun to create light infused images.
Sessions in the desert are usually an hour before sunset when the light is becoming softer. Sunrise timing is also an option, if you don’t mind a very early start of the day.
Old Dubai
A family photo session in Old Dubai is for those who love exploring and capturing memories in an atmospheric space. The session is probably the most relaxed we can have in an outdoor environment because of the variety the location offers. It is an interesting walk in the small streets with stops at the most beautiful little corners. The wind towers create the perfect backdrop for destination images, while the plain, textured walls are a gorgeous background for more emotive, closers shots and portraits. A perfect choice for families who would love to capture happy, natural shots with no posing or staying too much at one spot.
Old Dubai is the location that offers the best flexibility in terms of timing and this means you won’t have to wait for sunset or wake up before dawn. We can literally meet there at any time and create beautiful images with the light and shade the space offers throughout the day.
Mamzar Beach
Mamzar is my preferred beach location for a family shoot with an amazing variety of backgrounds within the same session. It is a beach session but your gallery can also include forest and greenery backgrounds as well as tall palm trees and great grey rocks, something that the other beaches in Dubai can’t offer. Mamzar is suitable for those who are willing to travel a bit more to ensure their beach session is unique, relaxed and interesting. Unlike other beach locations, changing outfits is not an issue there and we can easily incorporate even more variety in the shoot.

Black Palace Beach
Black Palace Beach (aka Secret Beach) is the location I would recommend for beach lovers who would like to have Dubai’s most iconic building in their photos as well as views of the high risers in Dubai Marina and JBR. There is a small patch of tall grass that can offer some variety of background too.
To avoid the most crowded times, we should meet at sunrise as this is when we can expect the beach to be relatively empty.
Mushrif Park
If you have small kids who love exploring and you have already had sessions at most of the other locations, Mushrif Park can be a great option for a fun session. Visiting the different traditional houses has been a favourite activity for my kids there and can keep the little ones entertained.
Weekday mornings are the best to explore the park.
