How to Plan a Magical Photo Session on the Dunes | Photoshoot Dubai Desert

Dubai’s desert has a whimsical kind of magic -

golden light over soft, rolling dunes and wide open space to breathe, pause and simply take it all in.

Whether you’re dreaming of a family photoshoot in Dubai, searching for a Dubai family photographer who captures the heart of your story, or planning your first session in the desert, a little gentle preparation will help you feel at ease and make the most of the desert beauty.

Here are my six simple steps in keep in mind to help you be prepared and fully present for your desert experience and photoshoot.

1. Be Willing to Travel a Little Further

Not all dunes are created the same.

The most popular areas can get busy, and the sand there is often criss-crossed with footprints. If you’re willing to travel a little further, we can find quieter spots where the dunes feel untouched and we’ll have the space all to ourselves. It’s worth the extra drive and the eminent car wash after - trust me.

2. Embrace the Elements

The desert has its own rhythm.

The wind might join us, even if the forecast says otherwise - playing with hair, dresses, and the edges of blankets. If your style leans towards perfectly neat and polished, then the desert might not be your location. But if you love movement, texture, and a little bit of wild beauty - this is where it all comes alive.

Step into your session ready to embrace the heat, sand and wind and enjoy the desert in its raw and unfiltered beauty.

3. Arrive on Time for the Best Light

We’ll begin about an hour before sunset, when the light is the softest. Arriving on time (or a little early) gives us space to warm up to each other, wander the dunes without rush, and catch that soft sun glow which actually lasts only around 10-15 minutes.

If you’re planning to change into your outfits before we start, consider arriving earlier. I’d rather see you walking barefoot and carefree across the sand than rushing through the dunes.

4. Dress for the Desert

The desert loves flowing fabrics.

Dresses that move with the wind, earth tones, soft textures, they all belong here. Overly formal pieces can feel out of place, and frills (especially on little ones) don’t mix kindly with the breeze. Dresses that are too short don’t play well with the wind either.

5. Be Ready to Go Barefoot

Barefoot always wins.

Slip-on sandals or flip-flops are perfect for the walk in and then we will leave them on the dunes. Delicate shoes can rest safely at home, the sand won’t be kind to them.

6. A Little Pre-Shoot Prep

If you’re using sunscreen or moisturiser, apply it well before you arrive. Fresh cream and sand don’t mix - it sticks instantly and is almost impossible to brush off once you sit down.
