When to Capture Those First Precious Days

Discover the ideal window for capturing newborn photos and why timing matters emotionally and practically in those early days.

There’s something almost surreal about those first days with your baby. The hush of the hospital room, the way time feels suspended, the tiny details you can’t stop staring at. It’s a blur of love, awe, and complete newness. And if you’ve found yourself wondering, When is the best time to photograph all this? — you aren’t alone!

Here’s what I’ve learned over the last 10 years as a Dubai newborn photographer:

The earlier, the better.

Ideally, the sweet spot for a newborn photoshoot is within the first two weeks after birth - often between days 4 and 10. Here’s why this window works so well, both emotionally and practically:

Sleepy, Snuggly Days

In the early days, babies are still adjusting to the world outside the womb. They tend to be sleepier, more curled up, and generally easier to settle. This allows for those calm, peaceful images that truly capture the softness and serenity of the newborn stage.

Before Colics and Baby Acne Arrive

Waiting too long can sometimes mean entering the colics stage or the appearance of baby acne, which, while totally normal and common, can be hard or a bit stressful for the parents. Earlier sessions help us catch your baby at their freshest, when their skin is often still smooth and their tummies - calm.

Every baby is different but photographing your newborn in the first 10 days can ensure that they’re generally calmer, more settled, and easier to soothe. It’s all about creating a peaceful experience - for your baby and for you.

Those Tiny Details Change So Fast

You’ll be amazed at how quickly your baby changes - even within a week. The flaky skin, the fuzzy shoulders, the way their lips purse or their hands curl, it all evolves before you know it. Photographs taken early on help freeze those fleeting details, preserving them long after they’ve quietly passed.

An Emotional Anchor

There’s something deeply powerful about seeing yourself holding your baby when everything was still brand new. These aren’t just photos - they’re reminders of what those early days felt like. A way to return, just for a moment, to that mix of love, awe, and quiet wonder.

So, When Should You Book?

It’s best to book your newborn photoshoot while you’re still pregnant - ideally sometime in your second or early third trimester. This will ensure your session is placed in my calendar and we have more time to get to know each other and prepare for the newborn photo session. I’ll pencil in your due date, and once your baby arrives, we’ll set the exact date and time based on how you and baby are feeling.

These early days are tender, intense, and once-in-a-lifetime. And while it may feel like you’ll remember every detail forever, the truth is - they fade, faster than you can imagine. That’s where I come in as a newborn photographer in Dubai who can help you capture those first days in a deeply personal and gentle way.

If you're expecting and would love to talk more about your newborn session, I'd love to hear from you. ✨
