How Long Should a Family Photo Session Be?
Why I Don’t Offer Different Time Lengths for My Family Photo Sessions?
If you’ve been looking for a family photographer in Dubai, you may have noticed that many photographers offer 30-minute, 1-hour, 90-minute, or even 2-hour sessions.
I don’t.
And there’s a very intentional reason for that. After more than 10 years of photographing families, I’ve learned that one hour is the perfect length for a family photo session.
How Long is Long Enough for a Family Photo Session?
For most families, one hour is more than enough time to create beautiful, meaningful images without anyone feeling rushed or exhausted.
In my experience, one hour allows:
Children to warm up naturally
Parents to relax into the moment
Genuine connection to unfold
Enough variety in backgrounds and composition
A smooth pace without pressure
Anything shorter would feel rushed and unfinished and anything much longer will feel too much. I can see dads nodding their head in agreement here.
Why One Hour Works?
With a decade of experience working with mothers, babies, toddlers, and growing families, I know that children have a very short span of interest and patience for photos. Hard truth :)
That’s why I work fast in the beginning of the shoot when I have their interest and curiosity and I know when to stop when the energy shifts and the attention fades.
One hour is the sweet spot. It’s long enough to settle in and short enough to keep it easy and joyful.
Do I Stop Exactly at 60 Minutes?
No. I don’t run my sessions with a stopwatch and you will only see me glancing at my watch when we are in Al Qudra Desert or Al Qudra Lakes and I want to know how far away we are from the best light and how much more time we have till the light disappears.
If we need an extra 10–15 minutes to finish naturally, that’s absolutely fine. I would never interrupt a beautiful moment just because the clock says so or pack up my staff when I see we still have beautiful light and more opportunities to capture natural moments.
And I don’t use the term time slots as I don’t consider my shoots as slots. They are shared time with you to get the maximum of the session and capture the best photos of your family we can.
The Goal: A Relaxed, Natural Experience
My goal is not to fill or stretch time but to create space for you. One hour supports that beautifully. It keeps the energy light, intentional, and enjoyable. I’d rather have you walk away from the shoot with a smile, than a sigh of relief :)
After reading this post, I hope you will feel reassured that one hour is enough for your family photoshoot.
Family photography is not about how long you stand in front of the camera. It’s about how you show up for the shoot and how you feel during the process. And when the session feels relaxed, supported, and intentional, that’s when the most meaningful images are created.
If you’re looking for a family photography session in Dubai that feels calm, natural, and thoughtfully guided, I would love to support you.
The length of the session is important, but how you feel inside it matters more.
