Natural Newborn Photography Session in Dubai: What to Expect?
Planning to Capture Those First Precious Days
If you are considering booking a newborn photography session in Dubai, you are probably wondering what the experience will actually feel like and I guess these questions pop up in one form or another:
Will my baby settle? Will my toddler cooperate? Will I feel ready so soon after birth? What to wear? When to book?
These are very real questions and if you have never had a newborn shoot before, very valid points which I will cover in this blog post.
A Thoughtfully Prepared Experience
I believe that a calm, natural newborn photography session starts long before the day we meet (ideally at the maternity photos stage, but I know that not every mom-to-be considers a maternity photoshoot).
In my pre-shoot process, I guide you with:
A detailed session guide
Styling recommendations
A thoughtful questionnaire
These steps help you relax and step into the shoot prepared, while also helping me understand what matters most to you. Communicating before the shoot and getting to know you a bit in advance allows me to approach your session with intention rather than a general approach and sometimes it feels like we already know each other even though we meet for the first time. This is so important for a smooth and relaxed shoot.
When Is the Best Time for Newborn Photos?
This is one of the most common questions I receive about newborn photography in Dubai.
Traditionally, newborn sessions are done within the first two weeks after birth. However, I know that in these first days a lot can happen. This is meant to be a pleasant experience that you will enjoy and not a forced shoot just to get it done, so I will encourage you to book your shoot when ready while still keeping in mind that newborn stage passes pretty quickly.
My approach is natural and lifestyle, which means your baby does not need to sleep through the entire session. And if the baby doesn’t sleep, we simply use that time to capture them interacting with you.
That’s why I usually recommend:
Book your session before your baby is born and start preparing for it. Talk to me and ask any questions that come up in the process and finalise the exact date when you feel ready, ideally within the first three weeks and up to a month.
In the earlier days, babies tend to sleep more deeply and we can get those soft, sleepy images. As the weeks pass, they become more alert and expressive and getting them to sleep might not happen during the shoot.
There is no wrong time and each stage comes with its beauty and challenges. For a more in depth information what to expect at each stage, just reach out. I am happy to have a chat!
How to Prepare for a Newborn Session at Home
You definitely don’t need to over-prepare, just keep a few main points in mind.
I will send you simple, practical guidance when you book your session and a refresher email two days before the shoot.
The most important step is to access the light and work around it. We do need to make sure there is a window that lets natural light in at the time of the session and if I ask you for photos or videos at the proposed times, I am doing it simply to get an idea of the available light. If you have read some of my other blog posts, you already know that timing matters in photography and the same applies to home sessions. We schedule your shoot at a time when your home gets the most natural light.
What to Wear for Natural Newborn Photos
Styling plays an important role in creating soft, timeless newborn images.
For babies:
Clothes should fit well, not too large or bulky
Soft, neutral, earthy tones work best
Simple textures help highlight your baby’s features
These choices keep the focus on your baby, enhance the feeling of calm and softness, and avoid unwanted colour casts on the skin.
For parents, I guide you in a similar direction - simple, understated, and comfortable. Nothing complicated. Nothing forced. It is a home session after all and it’s not about the outfits, it’s about the connection and presence during the shoot.
What If My Baby Doesn’t “Cooperate”?
This is often the biggest concern for parents and my honest answer is: Most probably they won’t.
Your baby will not follow a plan or a vision board, and that is completely fine. If they need feeding or changing, we’ll pause and if they are awake, we’ll embrace it. It’s as simple as that. The baby leads the session.
Newborn sessions are not always quiet and perfectly serene. Trust me on this. Sometimes babies cry, toddlers refuse to participate and no amount of snack bribes can convince them to cuddle their baby brother or sister, dads may lose patience. These are all scenarios that reflect life in the early days of welcoming a new baby and we’ll embrace them. The session is not about creating a perfectly controlled environment and a check list of poses, it’s about capturing this new chapter of life gently and beautifully.
I approach every session with patience and calmness, creating space for everyone to settle into the moment and despite how it may feel in the moment, we always create beautiful images and the final gallery highlights the serene and sweet moments that we all wish to remember.
What Parents Often Say After Seeing Their Gallery
There is something I hear again and again after delivering newborn galleries, “I didn’t think we captured anything beautiful…” And yet, we did.
Because I was there, next to you, to notice and document your connection and unconditional love in the middle of those early, busy and often chaotic days.
During your newborn photo shoot all you need to do is:
Be present
Stay close to your baby
Allow yourself to pause and feel
The rest is my job and it’s the best job in the world - witnessing your unconditional love and dedication and capturing it for the days to come.
If you are looking for natural newborn photos in Dubai that feel honest, calm, and deeply personal, I’d love to guide you through the experience. I am a message away and if more questions come up, send them my way!
